Freedom of Speech ???

Well, I wanted to blog on love. Then it occured to me my friends might fall asleep :-( So, I decided perhaps I'll leave that for another day. Okiee guys, you're safe for now and Sha, you can come out from under the bed honey ;-)

Okiee, okiee seriously now. Yesterday, I caught that video above somewhere on youtube of course. I don't quite understand the language. Although I did spend some time living in Singapore, one of Malaysia's neighbors, I did not live there long enough to learn the language of the people there (the two countries have lots of similarities and yet very different too). Besides, they have more than one official language. However, I really found this guy in the video to be well, he's good I say. I then viewed more of such related videos and read more of the comments posted. It seems this video has caused quite a controversy in Malaysia. I think if I am not mistaken, this video insults the ethnic malay race and the singer is ethnic chinese. If that is the case indeed, then I think this singer, this guy in the video needs to practice a little consideration towards his fellow Malay Malaysians.

Hmm, not much different is it? Afro American, whites, hispanic issues abound everywhere in this world. I've always wondered why it's so difficult to get along. I'm part Vietnamese and part French and I think it's safe enough to say that I know what racism is. This world certainly does not need it!

I guess that's why I made my decision to live in New Zealand with my beau. I have lived in France when I was a child, the States as a teen, Singapore for a year or so while I was studying at the United World College and then finally back in the States. I have to say that I love New Zealand the best and France a close second.

As they say it here, Kia Ora.

Peace, One World.

ps: The english translation of that song can be found here. I also found another non-related but interesting Malaysian articles by a Malaysian blogger here. Thanks Pinky.

wish we can group blog again but I myself, well you know what I mean. Keep blogging tho, so when I'm alone late at nite, your blog can keep me company.
On this malaysian singer in that vid?? Well I think he's an asshole for "polluting" the anthem.

I think I agree with cee there. You can't shout your mouth off without giving a little consideration. Works fine in theory but hell, we all gotta live together, me thinks.

it's kinda blurred here, the lines I mean. I think freedom of speech cannot and should not include agravation of any tranqulity between different peoples. One cannot simply come out and say , for eg whites are stupid, blacks are lazy , browns need the whites to survive and so on an so on. Words that provoke strong emotive response should be censored in some ways. In any event, i think racism truly belongs to small minds. Assuming that clip is such coz I too don't understand the language.

well, i think he should be allowed to speak his mind unbridled. I don't agree with raising a ruckus but if he's not allowed to, then one channel of voicing grievances is blocked right peeps?

kiko-mirko said...

Umm, so the reason kiwiland is the place you love most is cuz of that. It has nuthin' to do whatsoever with the fact that he loves NZ and won't move anywhere else huh? *winky wink* ;)

It's like most of the 9N fellas that reactivate their account cuz they just feel like it, and some other friends that is backing you up cuz we all just feel like it too.

did I just hear someone saying "what bed? which bed??" lol

Agreed Jen, then again, if freedom of speech has certain conditions, it won't be freedom of speech would it now??

velvet, i think in life, the lines are always blurred, one way or another. It's our compassion and logic that should be the guiding factor. I think.

nadine, yes but still, that guy has failed to use his senses.

kyle, you R very mean :7. I don't wanna talk to you! :Pfft

M, don't be notty! grrr

oooh, say it works!! We don't need a blogger account to post a comment here! yay :-D

The song/rap's quite kool! I think if it is insulting then it's not kool at all. I don't understand what it says other then reading the comments on that video. Boyoboy, I really gotta try and figure what those ppl are saying! It looks english but it's so well..... different.

I believe that even if you have got freedom of speech Or that we're entitled to it, THAT should make us more responsible. When you hurt others not known to you, you may also end up hurting those known to you!

My ten pence worth :-D

hi Jen.. Thanx 4 visiting my blog. Didn't have much time to update. This freedom of speech has been a very controversial issue in Malaysia. He can hate the government but please don't insult Malays and the culture here..esp Muslims. You can see the translation here,

wow, you're very mean Jen :(

Now, seriously! Well, look at it this way ppl. Thanks for the english link btw, to that kind soul.

If this boy is insulting, does he not also have some VALID points in there? I assume he's referring at one point, corruption in the police force. Now, that may be a rampant factor in some other countries too. However, he being a Malaysian, the Malaysian scene would be his concern right? In that respect, what would you expect him to do? Bring a complain to the malaysian authorities? Yeah right. Look ppl, while US have it in a mess at the moment (no thanks to bush) we at least do not penalise or put to jail people who have dissenting views do we?? I am not for bush. You guys know that. This is regarding basic human freedom and choice.

That boy has to be sensitive, yes! However you can fault him 100 %.

Peace ppl, out.

kyle

Are YOU serious??? What about gitmo? So the US label these folks as terrorist and that automatically gives the US the right to take way their rights??? Differing views and you don't get locked up??

Sorry Kyle, the US is no different. Just being frank, sorry. No offence.

Look no offence too to anyone here.

Freedom of speech sounds very good. It is important. I won't dispute that. Yet if freedom of speech results in chaos, anarchy then what is the good? This can always be twisted by any politicians with ulterior motives to cause havoc and in turn, make it advantageous for them. Although in truth, that's not an advantage.

I have lived in western countries and I am obviously eastern. If FREEDOM of SPEECH cannot put FOOD on my table, what good is it then??

Also, I hate the way the police force is run in Msia or many government bodies too BUT it is NOT right to make fun of others and their beliefs in the national anthem that was also smeared by that creep.

Msia's Bolehland is still a far away dream as far as I am concerned but msians can and should work 2gether to bring that day even closer!

Phew....sorry, long stuff.

Peace!!!

kiko-mirko said...

hey, you can compare Gitmo with this. That's a different thing altogether.

kiko-mirko said...

Typo, I meant you CAN'T compare the two. However, it is not saying I agree with the presence & practice of Gitmo dudes. Before this moronic bushman took over, we had none of that crap did we?

JenMarie said...

kyle - i'll leave sha to that okiee.

lynn - I have absolutely no arguments there.

pinky - thanks a lot!

Leah - you're very weird

zen said...

Kyle, Sha - I think we agree to a point that basically in Asian countries, freedom of speech is not exactly the way it is back in the states. Yet, we ourselves, americans that is, are having that eroded by the mad man are we not?

On this particular vid that is shown here, well, I read the english translation and frankly, I think you have to be malaysian or asian to really get his drift. Sorry, but i don't see the fuss* EXCEPT that hit on the national anthem.

Perhaps, if only everyone practices a little consideration as mentioned by you guys, the world won't be in the mess it is in right now.

l8ter

*sorry brah, I really don't get it. Mind explaining at your own time of course.

Kyle
What's wrong with using Gitmo as comparison? Why is it different? What about the habeas corpeus too? Exactly what freedom of speech is that great about the US now? Any subject be it volatile or deemed "inflammable" or otherwise can never be handled delicately. What and how each country chose to effect into law is each nation's prerogatives. We can't use the US as the benchmark for the rest of the world when the US herself is not in such a fine state of affairs now. Finland rates much, much higher than US in Freedom of Speech, fyi.

kiko-mirko said...

Shariff, I can't argue really. I don't mean it the way you sound it. After watching a vid on a local couple getting ARRESTED for wearing an anti-bush tee, well, what can I say dude? At least they got some consolation. Seems they were paid some settlement of money from the gov. WTF ..

What have you done GW??? screw you!

Peace out guys,

* Shariff, no offence dude and none taken. Peace man! cheers

Off topic fellas. You know something guys? I waz reading on that mofo's (gwb I mean) background. Sometimes I think conspiracy theories are not so conspiratorial at all. The amazing thing is when many refuses to see it and instead follow the media's manipulation of thoughts. Kyle, sha , kai too - check the one I just faved in my list. Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction indeed.
